RFID or Radio Frequency Identification is a technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify people or objects. This system functions with the use of devices called RFID tags or transponders. Chip-based RFID tags contain silicon chips and antennas that can either be attached or put inside a product, animal or person for the purpose of identification.

Leon Theremin in 1946 made use of this technology for the very first time. RFID tags come in two forms basically Active RFID Tags and Passive RFID Tags. RFID Tags are used for identification such as in passports, transport payments, product tracking, In automotives such as microwaves and also for animal identification.
